warnings and such from the publisher

First things first… Have you checked out our website lately?  There’s always tons more information and entertainment online, not to mention jokes, comics, Bart’s Blog, and more.  You can even read the entire issue online, or apply to work at NiteLife!  That’s right, we’re currently hiring for multiple positions.  Go to www.nitelife.org and click on “Help Wanted” or email laura@nitelife.org for more information.

Grand Openings… Europe Dance Club, the intimate new dance venue in Summit, will be having its Grand Opening in November.  This place will feature live DJs, including celebrity guests, and a state-of-the-art sound system.  Watch for this great new club, and make sure to give them a call to book your party or special event, because this place is sure to be off-the-charts…  North Beach in Downers Grove is reopening and having a Grand Opening bash on Friday, November 13th and Saturday, November 14th.  Check out residents DJ Allen J and DJ Elite, plus drink specials like $1 PBR drafts, $2 Bud Light bottles, and $3 bombs, and Jugshot Girls in the Tiki Lounge.  Live music includes Rock U on Friday and Chasing the Day on Saturday.  Stop in and check out the new North Beach.

One-two punch… November will feature not one, but two UFC fights: 105 on November 14th and 106 on November 21st.  Some places are showing both, and some are only showing one, so here are a few good options.  For both fights, UFC 105 on Saturday, November 14th and UFC 106 on Saturday, November 21st: Harry’s Sports Bar in Countryside will be showing both, plus they’re having a Jäger girl party and free tasting on November 14th; Q Billiards in Darien is showing both fights with no cover for either; Mullen’s in Lisle is showing both and has 20 different draft beers to enjoy while you watch the carnage.  For UFC 106 on Saturday, November 21st only:  Bannerman’s in Bartlett, which has something for everyone, is a great place to watch UFC 106; Last Call Sports Bar in Naperville is showing UFC 106 and also hosting Clown Boxing on Saturday, November 21st (Feeling down?  Punch a clown!); Wild Bull Bar and Grill in Schaumburg is showing UFC 106, and you will definitely want to stick around for their great specials on beer and margarita pitchers.

Good times, great cause…
DJeneration K is hosting a great event at Tailgaters in Bolingbrook on Tuesday, November 10th.  This is a Toys for Tots fundraiser plus a Marine Corps birthday event, and is sure to be a blast.  Make sure to bring a toy and party down at Tailgaters!  Check out the Toys for Tots ad in this issue for more events.

Live music… Mullen’s in Lisle is now hosting live music every week, with great bands like Sixteen Candles, Maggie Speaks, and Mike and Joe coming up, just to name a few.  Check out their ad in this issue for the whole month’s lineup.  Tailgaters in Bolingbrook has a great show coming up: Steelheart, one of the last glam metal bands, will be there on Saturday, November 7th.  Featuring one of the greatest voices in rock, Michael Matijevic, Steelheart will be performing some of their hits, including “She’s Gone” and “I’ll Never Let You Go (Angel Eyes),” so get your tickets now… The 2008 Best of the ‘Burbs Best R&B Band, Cover Story, has tons of shows coming up, including Super Wednesday, November 25th at Capri Classic Italian in Oakbrook Terrace (another Best of the ‘Burbs winner)…  Check out Hi Infidelity at Chicago City Limits in Schaumburg on Saturday, November 7th…  Rock out to some classics with DuPage at Chicago Loop in Streamwood on Saturday, November 21st…  John’s Buffet has Evil Twin on Saturday, November 21st…  Get your fill of Bad Medicine at Shark City in Glendale Heights on Saturday, November 14th…  Wild Bull Bar & Grill in Schaumburg never charges a cover for their live entertainment, and they have three great bands coming up in November: Petty Cash, Three Finger Fencl, and West 34.

Sing your heart out… Speaking of the Wild Bull Bar & Grill in Schaumburg, they are holding a huge karaoke contest every Tuesday in November and December.  You won’t want to miss this: there will be two winners per night, plus a Grand Prize of $150 cash to the big winner of the finals on December 15th.  Mark your calendars!  The contest starts on Tuesday, November 3rd with the first Qualifying Round.  You’ll also want to soothe your singing voice with Wild Bull’s amazing drink specials like $2 Miller, Bud, or Coors Pints.  Find their ad in this issue and bring it in, because that gets you 10% off your food order!  We’re saving you money… Need some more chances to sing?  Try Thursdays at Gasthaus in Elgin with Madman Karaoke, Fridays at Chicago Loop in Streamwood with S.O.S. Entertainment, or Wednesdays at Chelsea Place with Echo Entertainment.  Sponge Reef in Schaumburg holds karaoke Wednesday through Saturday nights, and Neighborhood Inn in Hoffman Estates holds karaoke on Fridays and Saturdays.  Sounds like your week is covered… Hosting a karaoke event?  Look no further than Liquid Kourage, which can fully customize your event and can provide Rock Band, MC, trivia, game show, and bar services.  Check out their ad in this issue for more information.

Something different… Hawthorne’s Backyard in West Chicago is starting a new tradition for Thanksgiving this year.  Sunday, November 15th at 1:30 p.m. marks the First Annual Turkey Bowl.  This sounds like an absolute blast: bowling frozen turkeys into real bowling pins and cash prizes for the winners!  Register your four-person team by November 14th for a reduced registration fee.  The party doesn’t stop at turkey bowling, either.  Each contestant will receive a free pig roast, plus there will be raffles, giveaways, $4 16-oz Miller Lites, and the Miller Girls, so don’t miss the First Annual Turkey Bowl… And this one’s for the ladies: on Thursday, November 19th, at 8:00 p.m., Illusions Night Club in Bridgeview will be hosting American Loverboys!  These international calendar men will be putting on a great show, so mark those calendars for a risqué good time… Looking to try a new beer?  Head over to Harry’s in Countryside on November 5th for a Budweiser Wheat tasting from 8:00 – 10:00 p.m.

Heads up, sports fans… Chicago Loop in Streamwood is always a great place to watch your favorite sports.  But hockey fans in particular will want to take note of their new Blackhawks Corner, the best new place to watch Blackhawks games!  The November Beer of the Month at Chicago Loop is $3 Sam Adams Boston Lager and Winter Ale, which is the perfect thing to sip while waiting to see if a game will break out at the hockey fight… If you’re a serious Blackhawks fan, you probably already know that Shoeless Joe’s in Rosemont is the Official Blackhawks Bar.  But they love the Bears, too, which is why they’re having a Bears ticket giveaway on Sunday, November 15th!  Head over there for a chance to win tickets to the November 22nd game against the Eagles… Do you think the Cubby Bear in Lincolnshire is the best sports bar in the country?  If so, you’ll want to go there for Thursday night football to vote and get your chance to win a trip to the 2010 Pro Bowl!

Get some culture… Holiday theatre is picking up, and there are some shows coming up that you won’t want to miss.  Players, Please Theatre in Lombard is showing “Two Rooms” by Lee Blessing for the first two weekends in November, so make sure you catch that before it’s gone.  If you’ve never checked out “Kama Sutra: The Musical” in Chicago, shame on you!  It’s an outrageously fun time, plus they have Sybaris giveaways at every show, which is every Saturday at 10:30 p.m…  Noble Fool at Pheasant Run is showing “Plaid Tidings,” which is a holiday edition of the always-popular “Forever Plaid,” from November 11th to December 27th…  Provision Theater in Chicago is showing “Cotton Patch Gospel” until November 8th…  And let’s not forget the holiday staples: Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire is showing “A Christmas Carol: The Musical” from November 13th – January 2nd; Porchlight Music Theatre in Chicago is showing “Miracle on 34th Street” from November 20th – January 3rd…  If Halloween is over but you’re still hungering for brains… ummm, I mean theatre, check out “Night of the Living Dead: The Musical” at Riverfront Playhouse in Chicago...  Who wants free tickets to all these shows and more?  We have great giveaways; just give us a call at 800-339-2000 or email laura@nitelife.org and we’ll send you some free stuff!

Personal notes… Our thoughts and prayers go out to our NiteLife team member Don Melton on the loss of his mother...You can keep track of upcoming benefit events on the “Benefits for Bart” page on the website, and I will periodically include health updates and excerpts from my forthcoming book in my blog.  As always, my sincere thanks to everyone who has sent prayers and thoughts, made donations, or attended a benefit.
